Protests erupt outside Kasba Police station as 3 arrested in alleged Kolkata college gang rape
Police have arrested two people, including a woman, in connection with the murder of three members of a family in Bolpur in Birbhum district of West Bengal. The arrested woman, Smriti Bibi, is the wife of Sheikh Tani, the younger brother of Sheikh Tuta (40). Tuta has also died in this murder. Apart from Sheikh Tuta, his wife Rumpa Bibi (30) and son Ayan Sheikh (09) also died in the incident.
Smriti Bibi allegedly had an illicit relationship with another man, Sheikh Safikul, who is a fake doctor and lives in a nearby village. Sheikh Safikul has also been arrested in this case.
Based on the complaint lodged by other family members, there were frequent quarrels in the family over this illicit relationship. Family members and neighbours told the police that Sheikh Tuta was vocal against this illicit relationship, due to which Smriti Bibi and her lover had resentment against Sheikh Tuta.
In the early hours of Friday morning, the room where the three deceased were sleeping was set on fire. Rumpa Bibi and Ayan Sheikh died soon after reaching the hospital on Friday, while Sheikh Tuta died on Saturday morning.
The local police have started investigating the case. According to sources, based on the statements of various persons and some circumstantial evidence, these two persons were arrested on Saturday.
